Undergrounding (UUD 48)
Overall project is an electrical under-grounding project sponsored by the City of Berkeley. Project affects the electrical grid connection to the house. Current grid is connected via a power pole situated in front of the house. Power pole includes a street lamp. Power pole is situated on CoB right-of-way in front of our property. Pole will be replaced by a new lightstand situated where current power pole is placed.
- Electrical – Overhead power line will be replaced by an under-grounded line delivered to the existing electric meter on the Southwest corner of the house. Deliver will be via trench across existing driveway. Concerns include trenching causing minimal damage to root system of Redwood Trees that are potentially in the line of access, depending on angle used to approach the existing meter position.
- Gas – Project includes PG&E replacement of the existing, aged, gas line. Current line is delivered to a gas meter positioned under the porch on the Northwest corner of the house. The gas meter is raised above a series of rock retaining walls. Installation will involved digging a well on the upper level terrace and tunnel trenching from the street to a vertical connection point established by the well to avoid costs associated with destruction and recreation of the stone retaining walls. A new meter will replace the current meter under the porch with an exterior meter positioned on the wall of the garage in front of the porch.
- Communications -Power poles which are being eliminated support communications utilities (i.e., AT&T telephone service, Comcast cable, Sonic Cable). Conduit for communications will be required to replace current overhead lines. AT&T currently delivers to the Southwest corner of the house, Comcast and Sonic currently deliver to the Northwest corner of the house. A single conduit will be required to deliver all communications. Anticipation and desire is for the new communications to track the gas line trench and deliver to the Northwest corner of the house, however there will be need to realign the cable paths track in the under-story of the home.
